"After graduating from the University of Sheffield (UK), I started my career as a lead researcher on one of the first community plant medicine gardens in Peru. My natural sciences career side-stepped two year later into outdoor travel clothing and the management of Rohan Designs’ mail-order catalogue production (copy-writing, photography and print production), which included location shoots in Iceland, Kenya and India. Quite a side-step but one that I was happy to do. I discovered I loved writing and photography.
"Following a fantastic three-year stint at Rohan, I went freelance and worked as a copywriter and catalogue production manager with a wide range of clients including Dunlop Slazenger, Procter & Gamble, Nissan, Renault, LivingWell Health Clubs and Rohan Designs. I was a regular contributor to travel/outdoor pursuit magazines including Country Walking, Trail Walker, Wings of Gold and Trailfinders.
"My own personal interest (or maybe healthy obsession!) with triathlon lead to the next change. I became the feature editor and then managing editor of 220 Triathlon Magazine, first in the UK and later in San Diego, USA – the mecca of triathlon.
"There then followed a move from the USA to the UK and the UK to Spain where, I continued my freelance business, adding web-design to my portfolio.
"Since 2008, I have run my own copywriting and marketing business specializing in issues related to overseas living, travel, property, finance (banking, FX, investing, pensions), healthcare, relocation services, personal security, travel and telecoms.
"I have been a ghost writer for articles appearing in U.S. News & World Reports and the Huffington Post. Most recently my portfolio included managing editor on Kathleen Peddicord’s monthly Overseas Retirement Letter, contributor to the Simon Letter, an investment newsletter, and the Overseas Property Alert. I am quoted in Kathleen Peddicord's book ‘How To Buy Real Estate Overseas’ with reference to my experiences in Spain. Other recent and current clients include AngloINFO, an international expat-focused publisher, Transferwise (a currency transfer company backed by Sir Richard Branson) and International Living."
I speak Spanish and French reasonably - at least enough to survive and chat in either language.
Food: I have been a vegetarian since the age of 12 and since then have had a very keen interest in optimum nutrition and wellness.
Sport: I love participating in sport and will have a go at most. I currently play field hockey, previously I competed at national level in triathlon and squash.
I'm a virtual marketeer and copywriter, based in South West England. I started my writing career in 1989, with Rohan Designs, the travel clothing company. In 2008, I went virtual, writing and providing marketing services to a wide range of clients, many of them associated with travel, retirement and overseas living.
I provide marketing and copywriting services to small- to medium-sized businesses, and especially enjoy the challenge of working alongside entrepreneurs as their go-to marketing right-hand.
I mostly work with clients in the property, finance (banking, FX, investing, pensions), healthcare, relocation services, overseas living, travel and telecoms industries...and expect to include a couple of sport-related clients in the very near future. Contact me here to discuss how I can help you.
